BASTAR DHARMA KSHEMA SAMITI

Bastar Dharma Kshema samiti (BDKS) was established in the year 1977 by Carmelites of Mary Immaculate fathers of Nirmal Province, Jagdalpur the first indigenous congregation of India. Looking into the plight of poor tribal of the area, BDKS set out to work for the marginalized especially tribal of Chhattisgarh State, India. It is also registered under Foreign Contribution regulation Act. With the Ministry of Home Affairs. 12 (Aa ) of the income Tax Act Government of India, 80G, CSR registration, SME registration etc.

For the last 45 years, the organization has been involved in various socio-economic development programs in about 300 villages through 21sub centers of BDKS in 7districts of Bastar division and Koraput district in Odisha state. Ever since its’ inception the organization has been concentrating on the socio economic uplift of the poor and deprived sections of people in the state of Chhattisgarh, especially in the Bastar division. The core areas of activities of the organization includes livelihood enhancement , agriculture development through the promotion of healthcare nutrition and sanitation promotion of children’s education their rights and protection community based rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, children with disability (CWD) women empowerment and management of natural resources for holistic development of the marginalized people. Skill development programme of youth etc.

Over last 45 years the institute has committed itself in brining social transformation through socially relevant research, training and action, publication and advocacy works aimed at integral development of the marginalized communities, particularly the weaker section in the community.

Nirmal Province Jagdalpur

The Nirmal Province Jagdalpur belongs to the Congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). It has a membership of 95 Priests working in different centers in Bastar as well as in the neighboring districts of Chhattisgarh and Orissa state in India. The CMI Priests are actively involved in various developmental activities in this state and particularly in Bastar division.

The other wings of Nirmal Province are Bastar Integrated Rural Development Samiti (BIRDS) which is dealing with health aspects in Bastar region, Bastar Rachna Samiti(BRS) is working in Agro-technology and Christian Education Foundation of India (CEFI) is functioning on basic and elementary Education. Bastar Dharma Kshema Samiti (BDKS) is widely serving the weaker sections of the society in formal and informal Education and Social Work activities. BDKS is running Gurukul Residential Girl's School, Palanar Dist-Dantewada and Bal Panchayat the non- formal education centers in Bakawand block. BDKS is also working for the poor household specially supporting for higher education for poor students and housing construction.
